BST — Beam Solver Tool ← Home page

BST started long before it had a name. Not in an office. Not with investors. Not with a business plan.

My name is Ziv Shemer, a building engineering technician — and my road here was far from perfect.

  1. 01

    First year — twice

Right after my discharge from the army I enrolled in engineering-technician studies together with two friends. We did not really come to study — we wanted to feel that we were moving forward in life. In studies like these that simply does not work.

  2. 02

    An ice-cream shop abroad

A few months later I travelled to help my family set up an ice-cream parlour. During the set-up we worked with architectural drawings, and for the first time I realised how much of a real advantage the little knowledge I had managed to learn gives.

At that moment the penny dropped: the problem was not the profession. I came back to Israel and enrolled again — this time alone, without the friends who had started with me, but with far more motivation and one goal.

  3. 03

    Teaching at the same college

In the middle of the second year something happened that I never believed would happen: I found myself standing in front of a class, teaching statics, concrete structures and engineering design — at the same college where I was studying. One of the periods that shaped me the most.

And there I understood: students do not struggle because they are “not smart enough”. They struggle because they are taught what to calculate — instead of why. Once you understand the logic, suddenly everything connects.

  4. 04

    Presentations → summaries → tools

So I started improving: clearer presentations, well-organised summaries, and later digital tools. Each time I solved one more problem that I wish someone had solved for me when I was a student. Little by little, without my planning it, BST was born.

  5. 05

    What we believe in

Technology should not replace understanding — it should make it possible. That is why we combine experience, teaching and software: we shorten processes, save time, and learn in a far more intuitive way.

BST keeps developing every day — we add tools, improve and listen to every piece of feedback. Because even today we are still building the system we wish we had had when we were students.

“Why did nobody explain it like this before?”— the sentence I heard again and again. Every student, ever.
